British Prime Minister Boris Johnson said that the rising cost of living in the country should not be a reason for withdrawing support from Ukraine. Johnson said this while speaking in the English city of Blackpool, writes The Guardian.
Johnson said that even though the war had led to rising prices, withdrawing support for Ukraine would be "morally repugnant."
"Markets have responded with a significant jump in prices, partly caused by the sanctions, partly by an increased risk premium," Johnson said.
Oil and gas prices, he said, will remain high for some time to come. The same goes for grain, feed and fertilizer.
Some people will argue that the price of supporting Ukraine is too high, Johnson said, but withdrawing support for Ukraine would inspire Russian President Vladimir Putin.
"(Putin) would be able to keep twisting the knife in the wound, the crocodile would just come back for more, and he could claim that his aggression and violence had paid off. That would be a disaster for Ukraine and every other part of the former Soviet Union that he could attack," Boris Johnson said.
