U.S. Congress wants a report on the use of $40 billion in aid to Ukraine - Politico

U.S. congressmen believe a full accounting of the use of tens of billions of dollars earmarked for aid to Ukraine is necessary, Politico reported Thursday.

"There is growing concern on Capitol Hill about the Biden administration's ability to properly account for unprecedented amounts of cash and track thousands of U.S. weapons bound for Ukraine," the newspaper wrote.

U.S. Senate Armed Services Committee member Elizabeth Warren pointed out that a full accounting of funds already allocated would be "extremely important for both past and future funding requests."

"The U.S. administration is sending billions in humanitarian, economic and military assistance (...) and the American people expect serious congressional oversight and a full accounting from the Pentagon," she added.

The publication notes that "the Pentagon already 'owes' Congress reports on its spending on European security."

In the absence of such reporting, it is not yet clear whether there will be unity between Democrats and Republicans in Congress in the event that the Biden administration once again requests additional funds before the end of this fiscal year, the paper notes.
