EU summit will not consider embargo on Russian oil

The introduction of an embargo on oil supplies from Russia will not be discussed at an extraordinary meeting of the European Council on May 30-31. The relevant issue is not on the agenda of the EU summit, writes UP.

The document says that the EU leaders will discuss energy issues - the progress in reducing dependence on Russian energy carriers, as well as the plan of RePowerEU, submitted by the European Commission on May 18.

European Council President Charles Michel's letter to summit participants also does not mention the issue of the oil embargo.

"We will return to the issue of energy, in particular the high prices that are hurting our families and businesses. We must accelerate the transition to alternative energy if we want to reduce dependence on Russian energy as quickly as possible," the letter notes.
