The former president of Moldova, Igor Dodon, has been detained on charges of corruption and high treason. According to the law enforcers, he has been detained for 72 hours.

Along with Dodon is detained his godfather Petru Merinyanu, who tried to destroy evidence in the case against the former president.
This morning, anti-corruption bodies of Moldova together with special services have conducted searches of Dodon in a case of passive corruption, financing of a political party by a criminal organization, high treason and illicit enrichment.
The searches were conducted as part of the so-called "kulek" case. It is a video from 2019 from the headquarters of the Democratic Party, in which the oligarch Vlad Plahotniuc hands Dodon, allegedly, a bag of money. In the video, the then president refused to take the package and asked that it be given to other members of the Socialist Party. The money was intended for remuneration of PSRM members.
