First Deputy Defense Minister Lela Chikovani and U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Russia, Ukraine and Eurasia Laura Cooper signed the document "The Concept of the Defense and Deterrence Initiative."

"This framework document is intended to define the directions of a new bilateral security cooperation initiative for the coming years," the Georgian Defense Ministry's press service said.

Chikovani noted that the formalized document is a continuation of the "Defense Enhancement and Deterrence Measures Initiative for Georgia," signed in Tbilisi in October 2021 by the defense ministers of Georgia and the United States.

At the meeting with the U.S. delegation, Georgian Defense Minister Juansher Burchuladze noted the strategic nature of cooperation with the U.S. in the defense sphere and thanked the U.S. side for its support.

Bilateral high-level defense consultations between Georgia and the U.S. are held annually to exchange information, experience and consider specific areas of cooperation.
