Serbia joined the sanctions imposed by the European Union against Belarus in April because of the "participation of Belarusians in the Russian invasion of Ukraine. This was reported by N1.
The reference is to EU Council Decision 2022/579, which was adopted on April 8, and two weeks later, on April 22, it was announced on the council's website that Serbia, Albania, Montenegro, North Macedonia and Bosnia and Herzegovina joined the sanctions.
This is the second time Serbia has complied with EU sanctions related to the war in Ukraine, following the March decision to extend restrictive measures to former Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych and leading members of the Ukrainian leadership from 2010-2014.
The decision taken by the EU Council on April 8 imposes sanctions against the Belarusian financial and transport system as a reaction to Belarus' involvement in Russian aggression against Ukraine, according to the explanation.
