There is still no decision on the sixth package of EU oil embargo sanctions against Russia after today's discussion by the bloc's ambassadors, Radio Liberty journalist Rickard Jozwiak reported on Twitter, amid talk from Budapest that they will only agree to ban Russian oil if the pipeline supply is excluded from the sanctions proposals.
"The EU ambassadors spoke briefly today about the sixth package of sanctions against Russia. There is still no decision. As one diplomat put it, "The EU risks becoming a procrastination union, a 'wait and see' union...," wrote Jozwiak.
Meanwhile, Péter Szijjártó, foreign minister of Hungary, the country most resistant to the oil embargo against Russia, recorded a new video message about Budapest's position.
Hungary, according to Szijjártó, will only agree to sanctions on Russian oil imports if pipeline deliveries are excluded.
"If Brussels is serious about imposing this embargo, it is only possible if pipeline supplies are excluded," said Szijjártó, quoted by Bloomberg.
He said the European Union's latest proposals, which include giving Hungary and some other countries heavily dependent on Russian energy more time to comply with sanctions, do not meet the energy security needs of the Eastern European country.
