Ukraine already has access to European LNG-terminals, capacity will be increased many times in summer

Ukraine has already received access to European LNG terminals through the new GIPL interconnector, which opened in early May. The state can already order capacity. In summer, after the completion of the Poland-Slovakia interconnector, these possibilities will be significantly expanded. This was reported by the Department of Corporate Communications of the Operator of the GTS of Ukraine, the UNN.

According to the company, since the beginning of 2022, the operator has doubled the guaranteed capacity for gas imports to Ukraine - up to more than 54 million cubic meters per day. Ukrainian customers have received new opportunities to purchase natural gas in Europe, in particular from LNG-terminals.

Now Ukrainian companies can order European LNG capacities and receive gas via Poland (terminals Svinoujscie in Poland and Klaipeda in Lithuania) and Hungary (terminal on the island of Krk, Croatia). Guaranteed capacity for gas imports from Poland to Ukraine is 4 million cubic meters of natural gas per day, and from Hungary 8 million cubic meters per day. These capacities do not depend on the availability of transit," the department said.

Thus, in particular, according to the Operator, the import of gas from Poland to Ukraine, made after the cessation of transit to Poland at the end of April 2022, "proves the effectiveness of the route".

It is also said that Ukrainian customers can contract the volume of gas and receive it through the Lithuanian LNG-terminal, and then transport it through the new GIPL interconnector and the Polish GTS to the borders of Ukraine.

"Given the capacity that will appear after the completion of the interconnector Poland-Slovakia this summer, opportunities for LNG imports from the Baltic ports for Ukraine will expand in the Slovak direction: the guaranteed capacity of 42 million cubic meters per day for imports from Slovakia will get another source of gas - 13 million cubic meters through the interconnector Poland-Slovakia, "- added in the GIPL.
