Polish Deputy Prime Minister Jarosław Kaczyński spoke about the results of the investigation of the crash of the Tu-154 aircraft near Russian Smolensk on April 10, 2010, carrying President Lech Kaczyński, his wife and 86 members of the government delegation.
This is reported by TVN24.
Speaking in front of the Presidential Palace in the Krakow suburb on the occasion of the 12th anniversary of the Smolensk disaster, he announced the imminent release of the results of this long-standing case.
"Today we know what happened. We have this answer. We have this answer, for the first time, complete, consistent, answering all the questions, and verified by many different centers, including outside of Poland. It will be discussed in the coming days and weeks, it will be presented to the public," the deputy prime minister said.
The official noted that it took many years to gather evidence, and in the last 3 years there has been a "big change" in the explanation of the circumstances of the disaster.
"This change is not only the result of the tragic context that we face today. Because that context is the war in Ukraine, there are unheard of crimes, there is confirmation - not for the first time, but for the first time so close, so directly - that Russia has not changed, that post communism - because there is post communism in Russia - is just as criminal as communism," he added.
Earlier it was reported that the Polish parliamentary commission investigating the causes of the crash concluded that the disaster could have been caused by two explosions. And both of these explosions occurred on board the plane.
Let us remind you that in 2020, Poland initiated the arrest of the Russian air traffic controllers who worked on the crash of President Lech Kaczyński's plane. According to the Polish investigation, they deliberately provoked the crash. The Russian Federation ruled out extradition of the air traffic controllers to Poland.
