Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration Olga Stefanishina said Saturday that Ukraine expects to receive candidate status for European Union membership in June.
"Ukraine has received a questionnaire for EU membership. We have already done a lot of preparatory work, so we are ready to move quickly. We expect to receive candidate status in June," Stefanishina wrote on Twitter.
According to the official, it is "part of our recovery and victory over the Russian aggressor who wants to reverse Ukraine's democratic course."
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky earlier said that Ukraine had appealed to the European Union regarding the immediate accession of Ukraine under a new special procedure.
After that, the European Parliament overwhelmingly passed a non-binding resolution, which calls on the EU institutions "to work on granting Ukraine the status of an EU candidate.
On the night of March 11, at the Versailles summit, after five hours of heated discussions, EU leaders said "yes" to Ukrainian European integration.
The European Commission's conclusion regarding Ukraine's application for EU membership will be prepared within a few months.
