G7 rejected Russia's demand to pay for gas in rubles

The energy ministers of the G7 industrialized countries reject President Vladimir Putin's demands that "unfriendly" countries pay for Russian gas in rubles. This was stated by German Minister of Economy and Climate Protection Robert Habek, reports Reuters.

"All G7 ministers agreed that this is a unilateral and clear violation of existing contracts," Habek said.

He said the G7 ministers stressed that the contracts are valid and companies should and must honor them.

"Paying in rubles is unacceptable, and we call on the companies concerned not to comply with Putin's demand. Putin's attempt to divide us is obvious, but - as you can see from this great unity and determination - we will not be divided," Habek stressed.
