French President Emmanuel Macron said he would not call Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin a butcher. Earlier, such a statement was made by U.S. President Joe Biden. This is reported by Le Figaro.

The French leader stressed that further escalation should not be allowed "either in words or in actions."

"We want to stop the war that Russia started in Ukraine without starting a war. That is the goal, and if that is what we want, we should not escalate in either words or actions. We Europeans must not succumb to any escalation. We Europeans must not forget our geography and our history. We are not at war with the Russian people," Macron said.

He also stressed that Europe is no longer in the context of the Cold War between Moscow and Washington.
