Finnish railway company VR Transpoint (a subsidiary of state railway operator VR Freight) has suspended receiving trains from Russia since March 27.
"Due to sanctions against Russian railroads, it is not yet possible to continue eastbound traffic. VR Group is obliged to comply with the sanctions imposed by the West," said Martti Koskinen, president of VR Transpoint.
It is specified that VR Transpoint stops receiving trains from Russia on Sunday. The return of cars from Finland to Russia will continue for the time being, reports Sever.Realii.
On March 25 it was announced about cancellation of passenger trains from Finland to Russia. Allegro trains, which used to connect the countries, will stop running between the countries on March 28. According to Minister for European Affairs and Property Management of Finland Tutti Tuppurainen, the further operation of trains Allegro "is inexpedient," as all the Finns who wanted to leave Russia, had time to do so.
