Ukraine and Russia have not reached any consensus in the negotiations to end the war, as stated by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba stated this in a commentary for the media.
"There is no consensus with Russia on the four points mentioned by the Turkish president. In particular, the only state language in Ukraine is and will be Ukrainian. And in general, the classification of the key topics of negotiations into four or a different number of points is incorrect," he said.
The Minister noted that there are many different issues that are being discussed in subgroups of the delegations. Negotiations are very difficult.
Kuleba recalled that Ukraine insists primarily on a ceasefire, guarantees of security and territorial integrity of Ukraine.
"We hope that Turkey as a friend and strategic partner of Ukraine will also continue to support on all tracks. I also take this opportunity to remind you that the imposition of new sanctions against Russia and the strengthening of Ukraine's defense capabilities are equally important factors to stop the Russian war machine and achieve the desired progress in the negotiations. This tripartite strategy - sanctions, military support, negotiations - should not be questioned by anyone," Kuleba concluded.
The head of the Russian delegation, Vladimir Medinsky, also commented on the negotiations. "Without demilitarization, denationalization of Ukraine, recognition of Crimea and Donbass, the conclusion of an agreement with Kiev is unlikely. Russia insists on a comprehensive treaty where, in addition to Ukraine's neutral status and security guarantees, there will be positions that are vital for Russia," he said.
He also stressed that the Ukrainian side is concerned about obtaining security guarantees from third countries if it has to abandon the course towards NATO.
"And this is an understandable position," Medinsky noted and added that he did not share the optimism of the Ukrainian side on the issue of negotiations.
