The media report that Foreign Minister Peter Szijjártó notes the need to avoid the spread of war beyond the territory of Ukraine and the direct conflict between NATO and Russia. According to him, in order not to provoke Russia, Hungary should not support the closure of Ukrainian skies and the deployment of a peacekeeping operation, as well as allow the transit of military aid for the Ukrainian army through Hungarian territory. About this on his page said the speaker of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry Oleg Nikolenko.
He stressed that "Not to provoke Russia" is a common argument when it is necessary to give Russia more space for aggression.
We certainly do not wish anyone the grief that Ukrainians faced because of Russia's war. At the same time, it is a mistake to believe that Hungary, like any other European country, exists in a vacuum.
Our state actually protects the eastern frontier of NATO. If Russia succeeds in achieving its criminal goals in Ukraine, our next target will be our neighbors. Russian ambassadors abroad are now openly talking about this."
The diplomat noted that "yesterday evidence emerged of how the FSB of the Russian Federation is trying to undermine the situation in Transcarpathia by using the Hungarian factor. Hungary has always positioned itself as a defender of the rights of Hungarians abroad. We call on Hungary to openly condemn this provocation by Russia and to use its developed channels of communication with Moscow to prevent any provocations aimed at inciting interethnic discord in Ukraine."
"It is time to be honest with ourselves. Peace and security in Hungary cannot be guaranteed without peace and security in Ukraine. It is useless to hope that attempts to placate the aggressor will succeed. History, including that of Hungary itself, proves this.
Therefore, our partners must take care that Ukraine stands up and defeats the Russian evil. For this purpose it is necessary to strengthen European unity. Unity, which will allow imposing tougher sanctions against Russia to stop its war machine," said Oleg Nikolenko.
