Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki advocated a complete ban on EU trade with Russia.
When asked about the protests at the border against the supply of goods to Belarus and Russia and the prospects of the EU leaders' decision to close European roads for trucks from Russia, Morawiecki expressed hope that "there will be another sobering up of European leaders" and the EU Council will adopt another package of sanctions.
"I am absolutely on the side of the protesters and once again appeal to the European Commission to activate its powers as soon as possible," he said.
"Poland proposes that a trade blockade be added to this sanctions package as soon as possible, both for seaports and a ban on land trade," the Polish prime minister said.
According to him, such a move "would additionally make Russia think twice about ending this brutal war."
As Morawiecki added, "we are talking about the lives and deaths of tens or maybe hundreds of thousands of people, we are talking about a sovereign country - Ukraine - but also about the security of NATO."
"We must demonstrate our strength and determination against Russia, otherwise we will have to pay a heavy price in the near future," the prime minister said.
