Akhmed Zakayev: Russian society is responsible for the crimes committed in its name

Putin is dangerous not because he exists, but because there's a demand for him in Russian society. This is the opinion expressed by Akhmed Zakayev, head of the government of the Chechen Republic of Ichkeria in exile, in an interview with Glavkom.

He notes that there are people in Russia who are actively opposed to Putin's regime, but admits that these people are very few. "If a million people took to the streets, the war would end," Zakayev is convinced.

In his conviction, there is no civil society in Russia, but protests across the country are quite possible. But the demands during these protests would be related not to the war, but to economic reasons caused by the deterioration of one's own well-being.

"Neither because of the killing of the Chechen people, children, nor because of the killing of Ukrainians, Russians are not worried. But when they get hungry, it will become a problem for Putin," says Zakayev.
