The New York Times said on Twitter that the American journalist who died in Irpen was not their employee. However, he worked for the publication in 2015.
"We are deeply saddened to learn of Brent Reno's death. Brent was a talented photographer and documentarian who had done assignments for The New York Times for many years. Although he had done assignments for The Times in the past (most recently in 2015), he was not on assignment for any department in Ukraine," the statement said.
The publication explains, all reports that he worked for The New York Times came in that he was carrying an ID that had been issued to him years ago.
