The U.S. is imposing a ban on imports of alcohol, diamonds and seafood from Russia. U.S. President Joe Biden announced this on Friday.
"As Putin continues his assault, the United States and our allies and partners continue to work on measures to continue economic pressure on Putin and further isolate Russia on the world stage. Later today, together with other NATO and G7 allies, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom, and the EU, we are going to announce several new steps to nail Putin and further delay him for his aggression against Ukraine," the president said.
He said the U.S., along with the G-7 and the European Union, will call for a repeal of Russia's "most-favored-nation" status.
"We are also taking further steps to ban imports of goods from several distinctive sectors of the Russian economy, including seafood, vodka and diamonds," Biden added.
The U.S. ban on exports of luxury goods from Russia, which Biden mentioned in his speech, would also apply to items such as tobacco, clothing, jewelry, cars and antiques.
