Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan held hour-long telephone talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Sunday over the war in Ukraine.
This was reported by Turkish media, including Haberler.
Details of the talks have not yet been made public, but it is known that they were about the Russian-Ukrainian war. Turkey's presidential communications office will soon release a statement about the conversation.
Turkey has been active in initiating mediation between Ukraine and Russia.
On March 4, Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu proposed a meeting between Russian and Ukrainian foreign ministers Sergey Lavrov and Dmitry Kuleba at a diplomatic forum in Antalya.
Gennady Gatilov, Russia's permanent representative to the UN headquarters in Geneva, called Turkey's initiative a good idea.
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba said that so far there was no confirmation of the Russian side's consent to the talks of the foreign ministers in Turkey, but he was not against such a meeting if it was meaningful.
