European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen says the European Union is imposing sanctions on the regime of so-called Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko for aiding and abetting Russia's war with Ukraine.
"We will target another aggressor in this war - the Lukashenko regime. The Lukashenko regime is involved in this brutal attack on Ukraine. Here we are going to hit the Lukashenko regime with a new package of sanctions," she said Sunday in Brussels.
The president of the European Commission informed that the EU intends to introduce restrictive measures against their most important sectors. "This will stop their exports of products from mineral fuels to tobacco, wood and timber, cement, iron and steel. We will also extend to Belarus the export restrictions we have imposed on dual-use goods for Russia. This will also avoid any risk of circumventing our measures against Russia," she detailed.
In addition, the EU will apply sanctions to those Belarusians who "help Russia in military activities.
