Macron calls for targeted European sanctions in response to Russia's recognition of the so-called "DPR" and "LPR," asks to convene the UN Security Council - communiqué

French President Emmanuel Macron condemned Russia's decision to recognize the independence of the so-called "LDPR," calling for an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council and spot European sanctions, the Elysee Palace said in a communiqué.

"Macron demands an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council as well as the adoption of pinpoint European sanctions," the statement reads.

The communiqué notes that the decision to recognize the so-called "LDPR," from France's point of view, is "a violation by Russia of its international obligations and the sovereignty of Ukraine."
