Participants in an unscheduled meeting of the Russian Security Council led by the head of state on Monday should determine further steps on the issue of recognizing the independence of the DPR and LPR, President Vladimir Putin said.
"Today's Kiev authorities are not going to implement the Minsk Package of Measures. Moreover, they have already stated this publicly many times - both at the highest state level and at the level of the Minister of Foreign Affairs and the Security Council," Putin said at the beginning of the Russian Security Council meeting.
"The purpose of our meeting today is to listen to our colleagues and determine our next steps in this direction, bearing in mind both the appeals of the leaders of the Donetsk People's Republic and Luhansk People's Republic to Russia to recognize their sovereignty, and the resolution of the State Duma of the Russian Federation on the same subject calling on the head of state to do so and recognize the independence and sovereignty of the Donetsk People's Republic and Luhansk People's Republic," Putin said.
According to him, "these issues are very closely related to the global problems of ensuring the security of the world in general and the European continent in particular".
