On February 13, Pope Francis held a prayer for peace in Ukraine in St. Peter's Square in Rome, urging politicians to seek peace.
This was reported by Reuters.
The Pope in St. Peter's Square expressed his concern over disturbing news from Ukraine. He appealed to the thousands gathered for his weekly address.
"I entrust all the efforts of the world to the intercession of the Virgin Mary and the conscience of responsible politicians," he noted to the thousands in the square for his weekly blessing and message.
Pope Francis urged the crowd to pray in silence for Ukraine.
He spoke a day after U.S. President Joe Biden spoke to Putin on the phone and stressed that the West would respond decisively to any escalation of the conflict, adding that such a move would cause suffering and isolate Moscow.
For its part, Moscow has repeatedly denied plans for an attack and dismissed such warnings as "hysteria".
As a reminder, Pope Francis called a full-scale war in Ukraine insane and expressed hope that tensions between Russia and Ukraine could be overcome through compromise and multilateral dialogue.
Earlier, Pope Francis made an appeal to people of good will and asked them to pray that every political action be for the benefit of universal brotherhood.
Also during his Christmas speech, the Pope called for the prevention of conflict in Ukraine.
