Russian presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov said that the task of the negotiations on Ukraine was to ensure the implementation of the Minsk agreements, the Russian media reported.
A member of the press asked to what extent the situation around Ukraine has deteriorated due to the lack of results of negotiations on the topic with Britain and the EU.
"The task does not need to be complicated. The task is to ensure the implementation of the Minsk package of measures, clearly spelled out in a certain sequence, where the obligations of the parties are fixed. So far the negotiators have not managed to come close to fulfilling this task. The Ukrainian side is doing everything in different interpretations in order not to fulfill those obligations that were fixed for it," he said.
Peskov also commented on Western politicians' reservations that they have been making lately during interviews and negotiations.
"Let's call the reservations reservations and hope to the last that we are talking about reservations. But the fact that the leading figures of diplomacy are having trouble reading the Minsk Package is obvious. Hence the blunders and inaccuracies that lead to a conceptual misunderstanding of what is going on. Hence the problem of high-ranking political advisors of the Minsk Four to read the text and bring understanding... This is the reality in which we have to work, to defend our position. There is one hope for our diplomats, who will continue to defend the interests and explain the geographical and political realities to their interlocutors," said the Kremlin representative.
