Biden will contact Macron "soon" about Russia - White House

U.S. President Joe Biden plans to talk to French President Emmanuel Macron in the near future, White House press secretary Jen Psaki said during a briefing the day before.

"The president spoke to President Macron twice last week. I expect that he will be in touch with him soon, which of course we will ... notify you all," Psaki said when asked if the French side had shared information with the U.S. administration about Macron's meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

She added, however, that the U.S. "will continue to be in very close contact with our French counterparts at a variety of levels."

"I would just say that we encourage any diplomatic effort. We can't - we still don't have any prediction of what President Putin will do. We can't control what Russia will do next. What we can do, and what I think President Macron did on February 7, is to make clear to our allies and partners that if Putin decides to continue to invade Ukraine, there will be serious consequences. But in terms of assessment, we don't have new information or a new prediction..." - the White House spokeswoman added.

Recall that French President Emmanuel Macron spoke with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow on February 7. The talks lasted more than five hours.

Subsequently, Macron said that by his visit to Moscow, he wanted to avoid an escalation of the conflict between Russia and Ukraine, and this goal was fulfilled for him.
