The Security Service of Ukraine uncovered a large-scale embezzlement of state funds allocated to one of the hospitals to combat COVID-19. Preliminarily, 12 million hryvnias were embezzled through machinations.

This is reported by the SBU press center.

According to investigators, the "scheme" was organized by the deputy head of the financial department.

Thus, over the past two years, the woman in collusion with accomplices paid for non-existent services and works.

In particular, the official transferred money to the accounts of affiliated companies for allegedly "construction and repair work" at the hospital.

There have also been detected numerous facts of groundless bonuses, advances and salaries.

According to the SBU, under the guise of "covidual" extra pay, a woman was charging sums that significantly exceeded the established norms, both to medics and to persons who allegedly provided "services" to the outpatient clinic.

The perpetrator herself had more than 10 of her own bank cards, which regularly received embezzled funds.

According to the findings of experts, in this way the defendants have embezzled nearly 12 million hryvnia of state funds allocated by the NHRI to combat COVID-19.

Now the deputy head of financial department is suspected under Part 5 Article 191 (embezzlement, misappropriation of property or seizure by abuse of office) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. An investigation is underway.
