Ukraine-NATO Commission: the Bankova told about the results of the meeting

The deputy head of the Office of the President Ihor Zhovkva said that at the meeting of the Ukraine-NATO Commission, the Ukrainian side armed its partners with arguments before the negotiations with Russia and expressed its position on the upcoming Alliance summit in Madrid, Ukrainska Pravda reported.

"We synchronized our watches with NATO member states and armed them with arguments on the eve of the planned dialogue with Russia. Our arguments were heard and taken to work," Zhovkva noted.

According to him, during the discussion all 30 allies voiced their position and in every speech there was support for Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as appreciation for Ukraine remaining restrained during the tense situation on its borders and not being subjected to various kinds of provocation.

The Ukrainian side discussed with allies and the leadership of the Alliance preparations for the upcoming NATO Summit in Madrid.

"Noted the importance that Ukraine should not only be invited to the Summit as a partner country, but also clear decisions on its further movement to NATO membership, preferably with specific time benchmarks," the OPU deputy head wrote.

"This is what we will work on, starting today, with all the capitals of NATO member states and with the headquarters in Brussels," he added.

According to Zhovkva, during most of the speeches at the meeting of the Ukraine-NATO Commission it was said that Ukraine's future in the Alliance is a matter solely for the 30 NATO members and Ukraine as an aspirant country.

"And this instills cautious optimism for the successful result of Madrid and further movement to NATO," Zhovkva noted.
