EU diplomacy chief to start two-day visit to Ukraine today: will start from the line of contact in Donbas

EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrel starts his two-day visit to Ukraine starting Tuesday, January 4, which will last until January 6. As part of his official visit, Borrel will visit Donbas. This was reported earlier on Monday in the European Commission, writes UNN.

"High Representative/Vice President of the European Commission Josep Borrel will visit Ukraine on January 4-6. His first trip abroad this year marks the EU's strong support for Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity at a time when the country is facing a build-up of Russian military power and hybrid actions," the EU said.

The head of EU diplomacy is said to be "accompanied by Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba will first visit eastern Ukraine and the line of confrontation."

Then, as noted, Borrell will go to Kiev, where he will meet with representatives of the Ukrainian authorities.

The EU high representative is expected to make a press statement on Wednesday.

As a reminder, Ukrainian authorities and Western partners have recently drawn attention to Russia's worsening of the security situation in Donbas, the build-up of Russian forces along the border with Ukraine, the danger of a new Russian invasion and increased Russian disinformation.

Putin's main demand is for guarantees from the United States and its allies that NATO will not expand further east and deploy weapons systems that Russia considers a threat there.
