France has abandoned Molnupiravir COVID pills

French authorities have cancelled an order for Merck & Co due to the fact that new test results showed low efficacy. It is reported by UNN, citing Reuters.

"France became the first country to publicly announce the cancellation of a Merck treatment order after the company released data in late November showing that its drugs were markedly less effective than previously thought," the report said.

It noted that data from clinical trials of Molnupiravir indicated that it only reduced hospitalizations and deaths for people at risk by 30%.

In general, we are talking about the cancellation by France of the contract for 50 thousand courses of pills "Molnupiravir".

According to the head of the French Ministry of Health Olivier Veran, France now relies on COVID-19 pills produced by Pfizer.

According to studies, the pill has demonstrated approximately 90% efficacy in preventing hospitalizations and deaths from COVID-19 in high-risk patients.

In November this year, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine expanded the list of drugs that are used to treat COVID-19.

The government passed a resolution that will allow buying COVID-19 drugs Molnupiravir and PF-07321332/ritonavir in case of positive results of their clinical trials and their registration in the USA and the EU.

On December 17, the Department of Health signed an agreement for the purchase of Molnupiravir, which is used to treat COVID-19. The plan is to purchase 300,000 courses of Molnupiravir.
