USA confirms Ukraine's right to join NATO

The United States believes that Ukraine's right to determine its prospects for membership in NATO, as well as the decisions of the alliance countries on its expansion, meet the foundations of European security, Ukrinform reported.

White House press secretary Jen Psaki said this at a briefing in Washington.

"The vision of the president and the administration (US - ed.) is that the right of sovereign states to choose ways of partnership and alliances in alliances is a key principle of European security," Psaki said.

She recalled that the United States has said this before, and this position remains unchanged.

"We support the desire of countries to join NATO and meet specific requirements. As for NATO's relations with Ukraine, only Ukraine and 30 allies of the Alliance should determine this issue," the White House spokeswoman said.
