The Deputy Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine Roman Mashovets and Canadian Deputy Foreign Minister Sandra McCardell discussed the security situation in the east and near the borders of our country, as well as the forecasts for its development, as reported by the official website of the President of Ukraine.
Roman Mashovets informed the interlocutor about the complication of the situation in Donbas and the concentration of the Russian Federation along the Ukrainian border of an armed group. He drew attention to the series of exercises conducted by Russia this year, which were potentially directed against Ukraine, asymmetric actions of the Russian Federation and its use of the territory of Belarus for possible expansion of aggression.
The deputy head of the Presidential Office gave examples of Russia's active use of information, energy and other non-military resources as weapons. In particular, this applies to disinformation campaigns of the Russian Federation and the first consequences of the Nord Stream-2 gas pipeline project, when Europe faced an energy crisis in September-October this year.
In turn, Sandra McCardell noted that Canada closely monitors the situation around Ukraine's borders, makes efforts at international platforms to stabilize it, and promotes the consolidation of NATO countries' positions to ensure security on the European continent.
She assured of Ukraine's unchanged support and readiness to deepen further bilateral cooperation of strategic nature.
The two sides agreed to continue active dialogue on security issues in Donbas and near Ukraine's eastern borders.
