There should be no exceptions for Nord Stream-2 in the EU legislation - Kuleba

The Ukrainian side and European partners insist that legally the Nord Stream-2 gas pipeline must exactly comply with the EU Third Energy Package, despite Russia's efforts to create exceptions for the pipeline.

This was stated by Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba on the air of the TV channel "Ukraine 24".

"Ukraine together with a number of EU countries and the European Commission insists that Nord Stream 2 must be fully subordinated not only to the spirit but also to the letter of the EU Third Energy Package. We are working to prevent Russia from turning Nord Stream-2 into a Nordic weapon," the Ukrainian Foreign Minister stressed.

The Minister noted that there is pressure from Russia on the EU because of the certification of the Nord Stream-2.

"Nord Stream-2 should have been launched a long time ago and work, but the fact that it still does not work and we are struggling with it is the result of our common efforts. We, together with our partners, have significantly slowed down this project and bought a lot of time for better conditions to confront Russia," Kuleba said.

"We see the efforts of Russian lawyers and lobbyists trying to find cracks in European legislation and create some special conditions for Nord Stream 2. But we insist that there should be no exceptions," he added.

Recall that the Federal Network Agency of Germany has temporarily suspended the process of certification of Nord Stream 2 AG as an operator of the Russian gas pipeline "Nord Stream-2".

Due to this decision the commissioning of Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline may be postponed until March next year.
