Georgian doctors: Saakashvili is in a near critical condition, but resuscitation is not needed yet

An alternative group of Georgian doctors, set up on the recommendation of Georgian ombudsman Nino Lomjaria, has reported that former Georgian President Mikhail Saakashvili is not in a serious condition but is close to it. Medics had been examining the politician for five hours at the prison hospital.

Giorgi Grigolia, one of the doctors said that doctors had carried out tests on Saakashvili's state of health and came to the conclusion that he was indeed fasting. This is also confirmed by the doctors who monitor him around the clock.

"His current condition requires intensive treatment and therapy," Grigolia said, specifying that resuscitation is not yet required.

He noted that the ward in which Saakashvili is staying is well equipped. However, new medical equipment was brought to the hospital only a week ago. The ex-president is monitored by shift teams of licensed doctors from the republican hospital.

"My personal opinion is that it is not expedient to treat such a patient as Saakashvili in this medical institution, as not only resuscitation doctors are needed in this situation, but also doctors of other professions," Grigolia explained.
