"Gazprom" has applied for the maximum volume of transit of gas through Ukraine under the contract in the amount of 109.3 million cubic meters per day for the second day in a row on Thursday, November 11, according to the "Operator of the gas transport system of Ukraine," TASS reported.
Thus, the transit capacity is ordered in the amount of 77.1 million cubic meters through the gas distribution station Sudja and 32.2 million cubic meters through the station Sohranovka. The total declared pumping capacity is about 109.3 million cubic meters of gas per day, which is close to the maximum possible volume under the current long-term transit contract (about 109.5 million cubic meters per day).
The actual volume of gas pumped through Ukraine on 9 November was 101m cu.m., according to Gazprom's data.
Recall, Russian President Vladimir Putin instructed Gazprom to increase supplies to the company's storage facilities in Europe after the completion of gas injection into underground storage facilities in Russia on November 8.
In December 2019, Moscow and Kiev agreed to extend the transit of Russian gas through Ukrainian territory for the period from 2020 to 2024, with the possibility of extending the agreement for another 10 years. The contract provides for the transit of 65 billion cubic meters of gas in 2020 and 40 billion cubic meters annually from 2021 to 2024. The transit agreement envisages the "pump or pay" principle, when the transit fee is charged in the volume of booked capacities, even if the actual pumping turns out to be less.
Transit of Russian gas to Europe through the Ukrainian gas transportation system last year amounted to 55.8 billion cubic meters, the lowest in the last 30 years.
