In response to the recognition of Crimea's belonging to Russia made by Belarusian Foreign Minister Vladimir Makei, the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry warned the Belarusian authorities that such statements could cause irreparable damage to the relations between Ukraine and Belarus, said Foreign Ministry spokesman Oleg Nikolenko.
"The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry has paid attention to the statements of the Belarusian foreign minister about Crimea," the spokesman said.
The official position of Belarus is to support Ukraine's sovereignty and integrity, the Foreign Ministry noted
"Changing Belarus' approach for de jure recognition of the temporarily occupied Crimea over the territory of Russia will lead to irreparable consequences for Ukrainian-Belarusian relations," Nikolenko said.
The spokesman noted that the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry hopes that Belarus will be prudent and will not contradict international legal norms.
Earlier, it became known about Makiej's statement in which he recognized the occupied Crimea as Russian territory, noting also that the government was not going to change its opinion on the issue.
