Russia halts supplies of thermal coal to Ukraine from 1 November - Gerus

Russian Federation from November 1 stops the supply of steam coal to Ukraine, said the head of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Energy and Housing Andriy Gerus.

"Since November 1, the Russian Federation stops the supply of steam coal to Ukraine. We are talking about coal of grade A (anthracite) and P (lean)," Gerus wrote in his Telegram channel.

He noted that coal of such grades was imported by DTEK, Donbasenergo, as well as Tekhnova, which unites Darnytska, Sumy and Chernihiv thermal power plants.

At the same time, referring to market participants, Gerus noted that the ban applies specifically to coal that is used for the needs of the energy sector, and does not apply to coking coal.

"Such actions of the Russian Federation are similar to its actions in the fall of 2014," the head of the energy committee stressed.
