Vsevolod Knyazev, secretary of the Grand Chamber, was elected as the new head of the Supreme Court. The plenum of the Supreme Court took such a decision by secret ballot on Friday by a majority vote of judges.
Knyazev will take up the post on December 1, 2021, at the end of the term of the current head of court Valentina Danishevskaya.
The plenum was attended by 169 Supreme Court justices and 163 ballots were deemed valid. Nine judges did not support any of the candidates.
Knyazev was supported by 98 judges, for a judge of the Cassation Economic Court within the Supreme Court Vladimir Pogrebniak – 49 votes, for a judge of the Supreme Court within the Cassation Civil Court Oleg Tkachuk voted 7 judges.
