In the framework of his working visit to Cherkasy region, President Vladimir Zelensky has visited the Major-General Igor Momot Main Training Center of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine, located in the village of Orshanets.
This center provides basic training, retraining and advanced training of the personnel of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine. Every year about 5 thousand junior specialists for bodies and divisions of the State Border Service are trained here. Now 500 servicemen are undergoing training.
The Head of the State inspected the engineering arrangement options for various sections of the state border - land, river and within the boundaries of the populated area. The decision of the National Security and Defense Council of July 30, 2021, focused on the issue of strengthening border protection.
Vladimir Zelensky also familiarized himself with the work of the Training Center for the use and operation of unmanned aerial systems. The President was shown the order of flight control and the training on the ground to organize the protection of the section of the state border of Ukraine.
"We must understand very clearly the strategic importance of the State Border Service, our border intelligence in matters of protection and security of the state and citizens of Ukraine. Therefore, the comprehensive development and reform of the border service is our common task, because a professional, motivated and dedicated border guard is a guarantee of border security and protection of the state," said Vladimir Zelensky during a speech to the border guards.
The head of state reminded that the security challenges on the Ukrainian border today are more relevant than ever, because the aggressor does not retreat.
"Without reforming our army, we will not be able to resist the insidious enemy," he added.
The president noted that in recent years Ukraine has been carrying out a large-scale reform of all components of the security and defense sector, including the border service. The transition to NATO standards and the interoperability of Ukrainian troops with the troops of the Alliance is continuing. And thanks to the support of partners, Ukraine will be able to defend its independence more confidently and successfully.
"Once again, together with our friends, our international partners, we have pointed out that the Black Sea and our Ukrainian peninsula, Crimea, are not the property of one person. They are internationally recognized territories and borders of our independent Ukraine. The return of the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov to the space of international maritime law and the restoration of safe navigation should be a priority for the international community," the President said.
The head of the state thanked the frontier guards for their courage, heroism, desperation and fighting brotherhood they demonstrate every day. The President also congratulated the border guards on the 18th anniversary of the creation of the intelligence department of the State Border Service of Ukraine and presented state awards.
