European politicians signed a statement calling for the release of Mikheil Saakashvili

Politicians from various European countries have signed a statement calling for Georgia's third president Mikheil Saakashvili to be released from detention «until he is brought to a fair trial on any of the charges brought against him».

 

The letter is addressed to the presidents of the European Council, the European Commission and the European Parliament.

 

As it turned out the statement was signed by 72 people, including 25 members of the European Parliament, 29 members of the Lithuanian parliament, the former presidents of Latvia and Ukraine, the former prime minister of Sweden and several politicians and experts from Georgia.
