Soon the Ukrainian Parliament will receive a bill that should legalize the acquisition of dual citizenship in Ukraine. This is what Yevhen Yenin, First Deputy Interior Minister, said in an interview with Radio Liberty.
«On behalf of the president, we are actively working to resolve the issue of multiple citizenship. There are tens of millions of ethnic Ukrainians outside Ukraine who would like to participate more actively in cultural, political and economic processes in our country. In the near future, we will come up with a relevant bill, which, I hope, will be promptly considered by the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine,» Yenin said.
According to the official, this bill should regulate the issue of dual citizenship for those Ukrainian citizens who will receive parallel citizenship of the European Union or NATO. In this case, the bill stipulates that Ukrainians should not renounce Ukrainian citizenship.
After studying the bill by the Ministry of Justice, it should appear in the Council. Dual citizenship is expected to take effect in less than a year.
Earlier it became known that the factor that deters Zelensky from introducing dual citizenship is the occupation and aggression of the Russian Federation on the territory of Ukraine, where Ukrainians receive Russian passports.
