The Supreme Anti-Corruption Court has continued to hear the case of Odessa Mayor Gennady Trukhanov. They are trying to choose a precautionary measure.
On October 8, the court adjourned until Monday, October 11. According to the prosecutor, they will demand the arrest of the politician with an alternative bail.
The prosecutor's office wants to arrest the politician, but Trukhanov said he did not understand the suspicion. The prosecutor said before the hearing – he expects that the court will take «the position of the prosecutor's office» on the validity of the suspicion.
The specialized anti-corruption prosecutor's office asks Trukhanov to be remanded in custody for 60 days with an alternative to a bail of 120 million hryvnias.
«I do not understand what I suspect and what I am accused of,» Trukhanov said.
We will remind that on October 6 the public prosecutor Irina Venediktov reported that I signed suspicions to Trukhanov and 4 more officials of the management of Odessa. It is a joint investigation by NABU and the SAP into land grabbing in Odesa.
On October 7, the Prosecutor General signed a notice of suspicion against Trukhanov and 15 other alleged perpetrators. Officials allegedly illegally transferred land to companies for construction. The total amount of losses to the community of Odesa is over 689 million hryvnias.
The anti-corruption prosecutor's office asked for Trukhanov's arrest. At the same time there is a right to make a deposit. Its amount is 120 million hryvnias. Trukhanov himself stated that he allegedly did not have such money. In response, he was advised to ask for help from his mother (according to the declaration, she is the richest in the family).
