The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine officially applied a special mechanism and asked the Russian Federation to provide detailed explanations regarding military activities in the areas adjacent to the territory of Ukraine and in the temporarily occupied Crimea. Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba wrote this on his Twitter.
"We officially applied the mechanism of risk reduction, in accordance with Section III of the Vienna Document, and asked the Russian Federation to provide detailed explanations regarding military activities in the areas adjacent to the territory of Ukraine and the temporarily occupied Crimea," the minister wrote.
The diplomat explained: according to the provisions of the Vienna Document, Russia must provide the exact areas of military activity, report the dates of its completion, as well as the name, subordination, number of military formations; also the types of weapons and military equipment that take part in it.
"Russia has 48 hours to respond. In case of its absence or the provision of insufficient or improper information, Ukraine will appeal to Russia and the rest of the Vienna Document member states to convene an emergency meeting at which Russia will have to provide explanations," Kuleba noted.
He assured that Ukraine would continue to use all diplomatic opportunities to ensure its own security.
