Since the beginning of September 2023, South Korea has estimated that North Korea has sent about 6,700 containers of shells to Russia. This was announced by South Korean Defense Minister Shin Won-sik, as quoted by Yonhap.
His words indicate that the number of shells placed in these containers can reach three million 152-mm artillery shells or 500,000 122-mm artillery shells.
At the same time, South Korea is investigating suspicions of North Korean weapons being shipped to Russia, which were manufactured in the 1970s.
The statement by the National Intelligence Service came after local media reports that some of the weapons, including 122-mm artillery shells, found in Russia's military actions against Ukraine were of North Korean origin.
The National Intelligence Service is conducting a thorough analysis of this circumstance and continues to monitor military cooperation between the DPRK and Russia.
