During mass protests in Tbilisi, former Minister of European Integration Alexi Petriashvili was detained under anti-corruption legislation. This was reported by Front News Georgia.


According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the detention took place on the basis of articles on disorderly conduct and disobedience to police.


The situation escalated after protesters attempted to tear down fences near the parliament building. The demonstrators intended to get to the stage where a rally of the ruling Georgian Dream party was scheduled.


It was expected that the discussion of the draft law on "foreign agents" will begin yesterday in the parliament, although the exact timing of the vote is not yet known.


Earlier we reported that Georgian residents expressed their dissatisfaction with the scandalous law on foreign agents, which was recently adopted by the parliament in the first reading.
