France to expand training program for Ukrainian soldiers in 2024

France trained 10,000 Ukrainian soldiers over the two years of the war. In 2024, the training program for the Armed Forces of Ukraine will be expanded. This was reported by the French Ministry of the Armed Forces.

"In addition to the supply of weapons and military equipment, France supports Kyiv by training Ukrainian soldiers," the statement said.

It is noted that the goal is to improve their skills in accordance with the needs so that the Ukrainian military can continue to defend their territory.

It should be noted that the training is carried out in France and Poland, mainly within the framework of the European Union Military Assistance Mission in support of Ukraine (EUMAM). In total, since the beginning of the war, France has trained about 10,000 Ukrainian soldiers, including 8,800 by 2023.

Training is conducted in three areas:

  • Training related to tactics, implementation and maintenance of the numerous equipment supplied. These include the Caesar air defense system, Crotale air defense systems, AMX 10-RC tanks, and SAMP/T air defense system;
  • Specialized training. It is aimed at critical know-how and covers various areas such as healthcare, logistics, demining, or armored reconnaissance;
  • Formation of tactical units. Their goal is to strengthen the capacity of Ukrainian officers to command a company or battalion focused on combat operations in urban conditions and trenches.

The Ministry noted that in 2024 the goal is to extend this training to the air force and navy.
