Russia announces the start of production of a new "Drill" bomb

Russia has announced that it will begin mass production of a new Drill glide air bomb this year, according to Russian media.

It is claimed that it has already passed all the tests and the first production batch is scheduled for 2024. In parallel, some warheads for the bomb are being developed.

It is noted that information about its use in Ukraine is "closed".

The developer of the bomb, the Rostec state corporation, expects that the Drill will be almost impossible to detect on radar, and will be able to fly to the target and detonate above it on its own. The bomb is designed to destroy armored vehicles, ground-based radar stations, power plant control centers, and anti-aircraft missile systems.

The Drill is capable of flying to the required distance to the target and opening up over it at the right time. If the element does not work on a given target, it will self-destruct after a certain time and will not pose a danger to the population after the cessation of hostilities," the statement reads.

Russian and Western sources claim that the Drill is a type of cluster bomb.
