The US will cut banks off from its financial system for violating sanctions against Russia

The United States will disconnect banks around the world from its financial system if they do not comply with sanctions against Russia. The Financial Times reports this with reference to an American official.

The blacklist will include foreign financial institutions that support the Russian military-industrial complex. US President Joe Biden will issue a corresponding decree today, December 22, the publication writes.

Two decrees will be amended. They will allow the United States to impose secondary sanctions, the agency reports, citing sources.

"We will not hesitate to use the new tools provided by this order to take decisive and swift action against financial institutions that facilitate the supply of the Russian military machine," said US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen.

Among the goods for which payments cannot be made are semiconductors, machine tools, chemical precursors, ball bearings, and optical systems.
