In the future, Russia may open a second front in Europe and attack Moldova or the Baltic states. This was stated by the Chief of Staff of the Belgian Army, Admiral Michel Hofmann, in an interview with VRT News.
The Commander-in-Chief of the Belgian Army calls on Europe to prepare, warns of a possible war with Russia and emphasizes the ongoing aggressive rhetoric of Russian leader Vladimir Putin, as well as the Kremlin's military buildup.
"We see that Russia has moved to a military economy. I think we would be right to be worried... It is by no means impossible that they could open a second front sometime in the future. Either in the south, or in Moldova, or in the Baltic states," Admiral Hoffman said.
He added that such an attack is not excluded "in a few years".
According to the Belgian military commander, Russia may be weakened by the emerging war against Ukraine, but it will "eventually rebuild its military machine and restore its armed forces."
"They have already shown that they have a desire to attack their neighbor. We need to see that we have the ability to prevent this from happening again and demonstrate the will to counterattack if necessary," he emphasizes.
