Ukraine aims for full membership in the European Union within two years. This was reported by the Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal in Politico.
He emphasized that Ukraine is making maximum efforts to achieve this goal and is not ready to wait long.
"This is very important for all Ukrainians. I am confident that within two years we will be fully prepared to become part of the European Union," the Prime Minister said.
While eight countries have gained EU candidate status, including a group of Western Balkan countries that have been waiting for years to move to the next step in the accession process, Shmyhal said Ukraine is a unique case.
The prime minister also noted that Ukraine has fulfilled all seven conditions set by the European Commission in June 2022 to move forward in the accession process.
"We expect that no later than October, we will be able to have a positive situation with the European Commission's assessment of our progress and that the European Council will be able to vote and decide to start negotiations with Ukraine," Shmyhal added.
